This wonderful eight day, musical chalet style clock celebrates the hard-working Swiss millers with this one-of-a-kind cuckoo clock. Given Switzerland's mountainous geography the country has always had a limited supply of grain with which to make that staple food of daily life - bread. As such milling in Switzerland has historically been a highly respected trade. Indeed, one of the world's premier institutions - the Swiss School of Milling - is located in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

To pay homage to the miller's of Switzerland, this clock features a hard-working miller right at the center of the piece.

After the cuckoo calls, all these delightful features - the rotating millstone and the waterwheel, plus the dancers on the chalet balcony - go into motion while one of two tunes plays alternately, either "Edelweiss" or "The Happy Wanderer".

On every hour the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour (example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is a sound shut-off device beneath the base of the cuckoo clock. Pushing the lever up disables the cuckoo birds cuckoo and the music. Pulling the lever down enables the cuckoo clock to play the music and cuckoo call.

Three cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by three separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the pendulum up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the pendulum weight down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding it up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.

Powered by a 192 hour all brass mechanical "Regula" movement, this clock is wound quickly and easily just once per week by simply pulling on the chains to raise the three pine cone weights. One weight powers the time; one powers the music box; and the other weight powers the dancers, the millstone, the waterwheel, the cuckoo and cuckoo call.
