This lovely chalet style, eight day, Black Forest cuckoo clock by Engstler features a fisherman sitting outdoors, fishing by a small pond, surrounded by hand-carved trees and with his trusty dog - Wirbelwind. At the top of each hour the angler reels in his big catch. The cuckoo clock cottage has two windows with wooden shutters and a decorative bell tower on the top of the shingled sloping roof.

On every hour the man raises and lowers his fishing rod as the cuckoo bird cuckoos the hour. On the hour, every hour, the cuckoo bird will emerge from behind a swinging door above the clock dial and counts out the hour by cuckooing once for each hour (for example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is also a manual shut-off switch that allows you to mute the cuckoo sound and stop the fisherman.

If you would like to hear the sound that the cuckoo makes while "calling" please hit play on the control below:

Two cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by two separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the maple leaf up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the pendulum weight down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding it up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.

The 240 hour all brass mechanical "Regula" movement (which is produced in the Black Forest of Germany) is wound quickly and easily just once per week by simply pulling on the chains to raise the two pine cone weights. One weight powers the time and the other weight powers the fisherman, the cuckoo and cuckoo call.

This clock is 14 inches in height and 12.8 inches across as you look at it. As such this fits into our "medium" size clock filter.

*Great effort has been made to portray each cuckoo clock as accurately as possible. However, as with any handmade item, the exact coloration and carving may vary slightly from clock-to-clock. This clock is covered by a two-year limited warranty covering workmanship and manufacturers defects.
