The Recipe for the Perfect Outdoor Living Space

Are you looking to create an outdoor living space? Well, you aren't alone. According to the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA), outdoor living has become increasingly popular in recent years. After surveying thousands of homeowners, the AHFA found that 70% of homes have an outdoor living space, and 70% of homeowners living in these homes use their outdoor living space at least once a week. When creating an outdoor living space, though, you should follow the tips listed below.

Seating

No outdoor living space is complete without seating. Whether it's chairs, benches, stools, swings, etc., you need some form of seating to fully enjoy this space. Without seating, neither you nor anyone else can relax here. So, choose seating that's comfortable, stylish and able to withstand the outdoor environment. Teak lounge chairs are always an excellent choice, as they contain natural oils that protect against mold, mildew and decay.

Climate Control

Contrary to what some homeowners may believe, you can use an outdoor living space year-round, assuming you have the proper climate control systems in place. In the summer, for instance, you can install a ceiling fan over a patio to keep cool. And when winter comes around, you can install a portable heater to stay warm. Climate-control systems such as these will allow you to get more use out of your outdoor living space.

Fire Pit

Don't forget to include a fire pit in your outdoor living space. A fire pit will open the doors to a whole new range of activities for you and your family. Using it, you can cook food, roast marshmallows, create warmth, and provide a more relaxing ambiance. Of course, an outdoor fireplace can also provide these benefits. Fire pits, however, usually cost a fraction of the cost of a fireplace, and you can easily transport them to different areas.

Dealing with Insects

Depending on where exactly you live, you may encounter insects when using your outdoor living space. Mosquitoes and gnats, for instance, are a common occurrence in the southern states. And when insects such as these attack, it's difficult to enjoy the outdoors. Thankfully, you can often install screens around your patio or other outdoor living space to protect against common insects.

Decorate It

Finally, you need to decorate your outdoor living space. This means adding decorative accessories like plants, artwork and rugs, while also ensuring the color scheme is coherent. Assuming you follow these tips, you'll be on your way to creating the perfect outdoor living space.
