Storage and Organization Solutions for the Living Room

It's difficult to fully enjoy your living room when it's messy and cluttered. It creates a chaotic environment that instills a sense of stress and anxiety -- two elements that you don't want incorporated into your home decor. Thankfully, there are ways to avoid this problem, including the use of proper storage and organization solutions.

One of the easiest storage and organizations solution for the living room is wall shelves. Assuming you have an empty wall, perhaps you can mount some shelves to it. Once mounted, they can be used to storing and displaying a wide range of items, including photos, artwork, flowers, candles and more.

Another idea is to purchase a storage ottoman for your living room. Storage ottomans look like regular, traditional ottomans. However, they have a hollowed-out interior that can be used for storage. Storage ottomans such as this are perfect for storing throw pillows, blankets, toys, magazines and other items.

Coffee Table

The right coffee table can also provide you with storage space. Granted, you shouldn't clutter the top of your coffee table with items, but it's perfectly fine to use the space underneath. If your coffee table as two levels -- one on the top and one on the bottom -- consider using the bottom for storage. You can fill it with magazines, mail, remote controls, etc. And because it's on the bottom level, it's naturally concealed from plain sight.

Rearrange Furniture

The way in which your furniture is arranged can affect its storage space. An all-around great furniture arrangement for living rooms is the traditional L-shaped arrangement. This involves a long coach or sofa with a smaller piece attached perpendicular to the end; thus, creating the appearance of an L shape. It's easy and simple to set up, and it looks great in all living room decors.

De-Clutter It

This isn't going to necessarily increase the storage space in your living room, but it can still help to create a more vibrant and comfortable atmosphere. Basically, you want to "de-clutter" your living room by removing unnecessary items and placing them where they belong. De-cluttering isn't something that you should only do once, however. It's something that must be done continuously in order for it to benefit your living room and home.

By following the tips outlined above, you'll boost the aesthetics and functionality of your living room.
