This shield style, German, eight day cuckoo clock features a rectangular clock case with green and white stripes. The hand-carved cuckoo bird is painted in yellow and pops out to call the hour from behind a door that opens upwards rather than to the side - a nice modern take on the usual cuckoo door. Below the bird is a simple but elegant clock face with red clock hands and beneath the clock case are two weights.
On the hour, every hour, the cuckoo bird will emerge and count out the hour by cuckooing once for each hour (for example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. The clock comes with a manual sound shut-off lever.
For a look at the clock in action, please watch the video below:
The two cast iron weights are suspended beneath the clock case by two separate metal chains. The pendulum continuously swings back and forth which controls the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the pendulum up or down the stick. Sliding the pendulum down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding the pendulum up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.
The 240 hour all brass mechanical "Regula" movement (which is produced in the Black Forest of Germany) is wound easily once per week by simply pulling on the chains to raise the two weights. One weight powers the time and the other weight powers the cuckoo and cuckoo call.
This clock is 8 inches in height and 8.5 inches across as you look at it. As such this fits into our "small" size clock filter.
