This beautifully crafted one day, musical cuckoo clock has a classic Swiss chalet design, It depicts a cheerful, activity-filled day at the chalet. At the center of the scene you’ll see a strikingly handsome, exquisitely detailed black cat eyeing two mischievous little mice in the cottage's cellar. While off to the left there is a rotating waterwheel flanked by genuine stones from Switzerland's Lake Brienz which, on this scale, resemble boulders. And completing the picture, the right hand side, you’ll discover Peter, the goatherd from the classic children's Heidi stories, wielding a walking stick as he stands guard over three little goats in their stable.
This fun and animated cuckoo clock has four moving elements: the dancers on the balcony, a waterwheel, two mice and three goats. After the cuckoo calls, all these delightful features go into motion while one of two tunes plays alternately: Edelweiss and the Happy Wanderer. It’s a highly entertaining, show-stopping scene every time!
On every hour the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour (example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is a sound shut-off device beneath the base of the cuckoo clock. Pushing the lever up disables the cuckoo birds cuckoo and the music. Pulling the lever down enables the cuckoo clock to play the music and cuckoo call.
Three cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by three separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the pendulum up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the pendulum weight down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding it up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.
Powered by a 24 hour all brass mechanical "Regula" movement, this clock is wound quickly and easily once per day by simply pulling on the chains to raise the three pine cone weights. One weight powers the time; one powers the music box; and the other weight powers the dancers, the mice, the goats, the waterwheel, the cuckoo and cuckoo call.
This clock is 13 inches in height and 17 inches across as you look at it. As such this fits into our "medium" size clock filter.
