This superbly crafted one day, musical cuckoo clock has a classic Swiss chalet design. The eaves of the roof are a striking red, with white petals and Swiss crosses as detailing. And on the gable ends of the cottage there are additional yellow flower petals - making this clock have a very high visual impact. Adding to that impact is the fact that the large waterwheel at the front of the clock edifice also dips below ground level, adding both interest and a unique feature compared to other waterwheels on other clocks. On the right side of the clock you can find an endearing little woodcutter boy - from whom the clock takes its name - shiny new axe in hand. The waterwheel on the left is also covered by a highly detailed roof and on both left and right there are traditional Swiss pine trees.

This charming and animated cuckoo clock has two moving elements: the children playing on the seesaw on the balcony and the unique waterwheel. When the cuckoo calls every half hour and the music beings to play, these delightful features go into motion while one of two tunes rings out alternately: Edelweiss and the Happy Wanderer.

On every hour the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour (example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is a sound shut-off device beneath the base of the cuckoo clock. Pushing the lever up disables the cuckoo birds cuckoo and the music. Pulling the lever down enables the cuckoo clock to play the music and cuckoo call.

Three cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by three separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the pendulum up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the pendulum weight down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding it up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.

Powered by a 24 hour all brass mechanical "Regula" movement, this clock is wound quickly and easily once per day by simply pulling on the chains to raise the three pine cone weights. One weight powers the time; one powers the music box; and the other weight powers the seesaw, the waterwheel, the cuckoo and cuckoo call.

This clock is 12 inches in height and 11 inches across as you look at it. As such this fits into our "medium" size clock filter.

*Great effort has been made to portray each cuckoo clock as accurately as possible. However, as with any handmade item, the exact coloration and carving may vary slightly from clock-to-clock.
