This grand chalet style, eight day, musical German Black Forest cuckoo clock by Hekas features a hunter stalking his prey on the right of the clock and the deer he his hunting to the left. Also on the left of the clock case there is a large waterwheel and the scene is finished with five, hand-carved pine trees. A typical, historical Black Forest scene. At the top of every hour the waterwheel turns, the dancers on the balcony twirl and revolve, and the clock itself plays one of two different twenty-eight note melodies: Edelweiss or the Happy Wanderer.

On every hour the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour (example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is a sound shut-off device beneath the base of the cuckoo clock. Pushing the lever up disables the cuckoo birds cuckoo, the waterwheel, the dancers and the music. Pulling the lever down enables the waterwheel and dancers to move and allows the music and cuckoo.

For a look at the clock in action, please watch the video below:

Three cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by three separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth which controls the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the pendulum up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the pendulum weight down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding it up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.

The 240 hour all brass mechanical "Regula" movement (which is produced in the Black Forest of Germany) is wound quickly and easily just once per week by simply pulling on the chains to raise the three pine cone weights. One weight powers the time, one powers the music box and the other weight powers the waterwheel, the dancers, the cuckoo and cuckoo call.

This clock is 26.75 inches in height as you look at it. As such this fits into our "extra large" size clock filter
