This German, chalet style, one day, musical cuckoo clock by Engstler features a man chopping a log in front of his cottage and a moving waterwheel. The Black Forest cottage has little rocks on the roof and hand-made trees and a deer at the base of the clock. On the top of every hour and on the half-hour the woodchopper chops wood and the waterwheel turns. This clock also plays music on the hour and half-hour alternating between two different twenty-two note melodies: Edelweiss and The Happy Wanderer.

On every hour, as the man chops the wooden log with his axe, the cuckoo bird cuckoos the hour. The cuckoo bird will emerge from behind a swinging door above the clock dial and counts out the hour by cuckooing once for each hour (for example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is also a manual shut-off switch that allows you to mute the music, the cuckoo sound and stop the wood chopper.

If you would like to hear the sound that the cuckoo makes while "calling" please hit play on the control below:

Also, you can hear the clock playing Edelweiss by playing the below:

And hear it play The Happy Wanderer by listening to this:

Three cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by three separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the pendulum up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the pendulum weight down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding it up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.

The 30 hour all brass mechanical Regula movement (which is produced in the Black Forest of Germany) is wound easily once per day by simply pulling on the chains to raise the three pine cone weights. One weight powers the time; one powers the music box; and the other weight powers the woodchopper, the cuckoo and the cuckoo call.

This clock is 10 inches in height and 12 inches across as you look at it. As such this fits into our "small" size clock filter.

*Great effort has been made to portray each cuckoo clock as accurately as possible. However, as with any handmade item, the exact coloration and carving may vary slightly from clock-to-clock.
