This lovely chalet style Black Forest cuckoo clock features a shepherd tending to some of the sheep in his herd. At the top of each hour the shepherd raises his staff to move along his charges. The cuckoo clock cottage has two windows with wooden shutters and wonderful gable ends on the cottage with a stag's head on each.

On every hour the man raises and lowers his staff as the cuckoo bird cuckoos the hour. On the hour, every hour, the cuckoo bird will emerge from behind a swinging door above the clock dial and counts out the hour by cuckooing once for each hour (for example: at one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). The half hour is announced with one cuckoo call. There is also a manual night shut-off switch that allows you to mute the cuckoo sound and stop the shepherd.

Two cast iron pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by two separate brass chains. The hand-made pendulum continuously swings back and forth controlling the timing of the clock. If your cuckoo clock's timing should ever need adjustment, you can control the speed of your clock by sliding the maple leaf up or down the pendulum stick. Sliding the pendulum weight down causes the cuckoo clock to run slightly slower, while sliding it up makes the cuckoo clock run slightly faster.

The 240 hour all brass mechanical "Regula" movement (which is produced in the Black Forest of Germany) is wound quickly and easily just once per week by simply pulling on the chains to raise the two pine cone weights. One weight powers the time and the other weight powers the shepherd, the cuckoo and cuckoo call.

This clock is 14 inches in height and 12 inches across as you look at it. As such this fits into our "medium" size clock filter
