Decorating and Staging Tips to Sell Your Home Faster

Are you planning to sell your home? If so, you should invest the necessary time and energy to make it appealing to prospective buyers. If your home is riddled with boxes and no real sense of aesthetics, you may have trouble selling it. Buyers want to envision themselves living in the home, so it's important to decorate it. Keep reading to learn more about staging and presenting your home.

Hide the Boxes

When preparing to sell your home, you'll probably have some boxes lying around -- and that's okay. As long as the boxes are out of plain sight, it shouldn't have a negative impact on how prospective buyers perceive your home. So, consider storing your boxes in the basement or attic until you've found a buyer. Alternatively, you can rent a self-storage unit in which to store your boxes.

Don't Remove Wall Decorations

Whether your walls are decorated with paintings, framed photos, wall art, cuckoo clocks or anything else, you should leave them up. Removing wall decorations such as these creates large voided spaces that may deter some prospective buyers. Once you've found a buyer and signed a contract, you can begin removing these and other decorations from your home.

Clean Up Your Foyer

The foyer is an important area in a home, especially for prospective buyers. It's the first thing they see when entering the home, so it naturally affects their overall perception of the home. If you want to sell your home more quickly, try decorating your foyer with a small end table, lamp and other decorative accessories.

Rearrange the Furniture

Of course, you can also sell your home more quickly by rearranging the furniture. Rather than pushing all of the furniture up against the wall, try leaving some spaces between. Even if it's just a couple of feet, you can use the space between your furniture and the wall to place light fixtures, houseplants and more.

Don't Forget the Landscape

While most staging is done indoors, some is done outdoors. Creating an attractive landscape, for instance, is arguably one of the most important steps in staging a home to sell. It creates a positive impression on prospective buyers, encouraging them to tour the inside of your home.

By following the tips outlined above, you'll have an easier time selling your home. Just remember to create an attractive, cohesive environment that's appealing to prospective buyers.
