Decorating Your Bedroom on a Shoestring Budget

Many homeowners assume it's too expensive and/or time-consuming to decorate their bedrooms. As a result, they leave one of the most important rooms in their home void of any real sense of aesthetics of style. If this sounds like a familiar scenario, you should consider the following tips to transform your bedroom into a decorative oasis, all without spending a fortune.

Remove Unnecessary Furnishings

First and foremost, you should go through your bedroom and remove any unnecessary furnishings and decorative accessories. If an item isn't needed, remove it from your bedroom. You only have so much space in your bedroom, and it's important to use it efficiently. By removing unnecessary items, you'll have more space to work with, allowing you to maximize your bedroom decor to its fullest potential.

Check Yard Sales

There's no better place to find inexpensive bedroom decor than yard sales. Regardless of where you live, there's probably some yard sales taking place. So, the next free weekend you have, take a trip around to some of the neighborhoods in your area, scouring yard sales in search of inexpensive decorative furnishings and accessories for your bedroom. With a little bit of luck, you can score some truly amazing finds, all for a fraction of the original price.

Repurpose Old Furniture

Of course, another option is repurpose existing furniture for use in your bedroom. If you have a bonus room filled with old, vintage furniture, perhaps you can bring a few pieces into your bedroom. Assuming the furniture flows with your bedroom decor, it's perfectly fine to use it here. Even if the furniture doesn't flow with your bedroom decor, you may be able to paint and/or refinish it with a tone. This is significantly cheaper than buying an entirely new piece of furniture.

Use Bright Colors

We've talked about this before on our blog, but it's worth mentioning again that bright colors create an optical illusion of sorts in which the space appears larger than what it really is. Conversely, black and other dark colors have the opposite effective by making the space appear smaller and more confined. For this reason, it's best to stick with bright colors when decorating your bedroom. Painting the walls a bright shade will make your room look more open, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
