Country Home Decorating Ideas

Whether you live in the city or a rural area far away from civilization, you can achieve a genuine country decor in your home by following some simple steps. Country decor embraces neutral colors and rustic elements to create a timeless style. To learn more about country decor and how to achieve it in your home, keep reading.

Wicker Furniture

If you look at examples of country homes, you'll notice that many of them feature wicker furniture. From wicker chairs and tables to wicker benches and stools, it's the perfect style of furniture for a country home. Wicker typically has a beige/tan color, and it's also incredibly lightweight and easy to maintain. You don't have to limit yourself to only using wicker furniture, though. Feel free to mix up your country home furnishings with other styles.

Plaid Designs

You can create a more vibrant and energetic atmosphere in your country home by incorporating plaid patterns into the design. Some people assume that country decor requires solid colors, but this isn't necessarily true. While many country homes do in fact have solid colors and only solid colors, others have plaid patters. A red-and-white plaid pattern, for instance, is a fun way to make your home more visually appealing.

Striped Patterns

Plaid isn't the only design from which to choose. Another excellent pattern for country homes is striped. Whether it's blue and white, red and white, etc., you can't go wrong with striped patterns in your country home.

Cuckoo Clocks

We can't talk about country decor without mentioning cuckoo clocks. Originating out of Germany's Black Forest, cuckoo clocks are prized for their expert craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Painted Furniture

One of the perks of country decor is the freedom it offers to use old and vintage furniture. You can incorporate antique dressers and other furnishings into your home decor without any additional work. Alternatively, though, you can also paint vintage furniture to create a one-of-a-kind look that's guaranteed to enhance your home. There are countless videos and tutorials online that guide you through the process of creating painted furniture. Basically, though, it involves distressing old furniture, painting over the surface, and then distressing it a little bit more. The end result is a unique piece of furniture that embodies the attractive qualities of vintage and country decor.
