Choosing the Right Flooring for a Bathroom

Choosing the right flooring material is essential when decorating and designing a bathroom. Whether it's the main bathroom or a secondary bathroom, the right flooring helps to create a more functional space while improving your home's aesthetics in the process. On the other hand, however, the wrong flooring could come back to haunt you. So, if you're thinking about installing new flooring in your bathroom, here are some of the top choices to consider.

Vinyl

We can't talk about bathroom flooring materials without mentioning vinyl. It's inexpensive, versatile, water resistant and available in countless colors and designs. With that said, however, vinyl is often viewed as being somewhat cheap. If the rest of your home features hardwood floors, you should probably choose a different, higher quality material for your bathroom flooring.

Ceramic Tile

A step up from vinyl is ceramic tile. Ceramic tile costs slightly more than its vinyl counterpart, but this is instance in which you get what you pay for. It offers a more premium appearance that looks great in virtually all bathrooms. The only downside to using ceramic flooring is that it's somewhat susceptible to damage. If you drop a heavy object on it, the tiles may crack or shatter.

Cork

A lesser-known type of flooring for the bathroom is cork. Made of lightweight bark, it's the perfect alternative to traditional hardwood. It's stylish, soft, comfortable and looks great with all styles of decor. Cork flooring is also resistant to mold and mildew, further increasing its value when used in the bathroom. And if you want to make cork flooring stronger, you can add a coating of polyurethane finish.

Bamboo

Of course, bamboo is another option to consider when choosing flooring for your bathroom. As explained by The Spruce, bamboo flooring is an environmentally friendly, easy to maintain and water resistant.

Laminate

Finally, laminate is always an excellent choice of flooring for the bathroom. Also known as floating wood tile, it consists of multiple layers of synthetic material that are fused together through lamination (hence the name). Technical jargon aside, laminate flooring is inexpensive, stylish, water resistant and easy to maintain.
