Choosing the Right Bed Frame: What You Should Know

A good bed frame will last over 10 years. In fact, you can make it last even longer if you clean and care for it. Eventually, however, you'll need to replace your bed frame. Maybe it features a dated design, or perhaps it's damaged and no longer able to support the mattress. Regardless of why you're replacing your bed frame, you should follow the tips outlined here to choose the right one.

#1) Material

What material is the bed frame made of? Some are made of high-quality hardwood materials, whereas others are made of cheap particle board or synthetic laminated wood. You'll also find that some bed frames are made of metal, which typically offer a more modern appearance than wood.

Keep in mind that wood bed frames are susceptible to damage caused by fluctuating humidity levels. As long as you maintain a 40% to 50% humidity in your home, however, this shouldn't be a problem.

#2) Mattress Size

Of course, you should also consider the size of your mattress when choosing a new bed frame. Some bed frames are designed for specific mattress sizes, such as queen or king, whereas others are adjustable and can accommodate a range of sizes. Unless you plan on replacing your mattress as well, choose an appropriately sized bed frame.

#3) Height

It's also a good idea to consider height when choosing a bed frame. If you're the proud owner of a dog and allow your dog to jump on the bed, you probably want a somewhat short bed frame. On the other hand, if you prefer resting high above the ground, a tall frame should suffice.

#4) Storage

If you have limited space in your bedroom, you may want to choose a bed frame with built-in storage. Some bed frames, for instance, feature slide-out cabinets at the bottom. Using these cabinets, you can store clothes, toys, books or other similar-sized items.

#5) Color

What color bed frame do you want? Most wood frames come in their natural brown color, which may or may not flow with your bedroom's existing decor. Thankfully, you can find bed frames available in just about any color under the rainbow. If your bedroom features black furniture, a similar black bed frame is recommended.

After reading this, you should have a better understanding of which bed frame is right for you. Just remember to consider the material, mattress size, height, storage and color.
