Budget-Friendly Home Decor Ideas

Who says decorating your home has to cost an arm and a leg? While there are countless high-cost furnishings and decorative accessories, there are other, less inexpensive solutions available. So if you're looking to decorate your home without breaking into your savings account, perhaps you should consider one or more of the following.

Photo Collage

One of my personal favorite inexpensive home decorations is a photo collage. You can buy some cheap picture frames for about $1 buck a piece, arranging them in a non-uniform shape on your wall. Whether you're looking to decorate a small hallway or entire room, you can't go wrong with this method. It's cheap, easy to do, and offers a truly one-of-a-kind look.

Houseplants

Another inexpensive home decoration is a house plant. Assuming you have flowers or plants growing outdoors, you can always take a cutting, transplant it into a container or pot, and then bring it indoors. Houseplants are great for aesthetic and decorative purposes, but they also work to filter impurities from the air. Back in the 1970s, NASA conducted a study in which it found several varieties of common houseplants were effective at cleaning the air. Just remember to choose species that are low maintenance and easy to grow; otherwise, you'll be investing countless hours into caring for your houseplants.

Paint the Walls

Don't get me wrong, you can easily spend hundreds of dollars on new paint. However, there are other ways to obtain paint without spending a fortune. The next time you make a trip to the local dump, ask the attendant if he or she has any paint. Homeowners often drop off their leftover paint at the dump, and depending on who's running the place, the attendant may hand it over at no additional charge. If you can get a couple gallons of paint for free, this is a great way to update your home decor.

Wooden Pallets

If you have access to old wooden pallets, try sanding them down and using them as furnishings in your home. You can create countless home decorations and furnishings using them, including coffee tablets, night stands, shadow boxes, plant containers and more. The great thing about wooden pallets, besides the low cost, is their versatility. Feel free to experiment with different ideas to see what you can come up. After all, that's one of the most enjoyable elements with do it yourself home decor.
