Bedroom Decorating Trends to Watch in 2018

Ready to give your bedroom a much-needed makeover? Even if your bedroom "looks" nice, it will eventually need a new design. Decorating your bedroom with new colors and furnishings will revitalize the atmosphere and create a more enjoyable living space. Here are a few bedroom decorating trends that are expected to gain momentum in 2018 and beyond.

More and more homeowners are incorporating plants into their bedroom decor. Whether it's a cornstalk plant, spider lily, etc., common houseplants such as these offer a unique style that's not achieved through traditional decorative accessories. As a side benefit, houseplants -- assuming they are real and not fake -- will clean the air by filtering germs and dust. For these reasons and others, you should consider decorating your bedroom with houseplants.

Accent Wall

What is an accent wall, and why should you use one in your bedroom? An accent wall is simply a wall that's painted in a different color than the other walls. Assuming your bedroom has four walls, you may paint three walls in a dark blue color and one wall in a light blue color, the latter of which is considered an accent wall. Creating an accent wall is easy, requiring nothing more than a gallon or two of paint, but it adds lots of value to your bedroom decor.

Mood Lighting

Mood lighting is another bedroom decor trend that's gaining popularity among homeowners. Mood lighting, as the name suggests, is designed to set the mood by creating dimmer illumination. It's often preferred over traditional lighting because of its energy efficient benefits. If you're lounging in bed reading a book at night, you probably don't need a bright overhead fixture. Rather, dim mood lighting will suffice.

Daybeds are now being used to enhance the decor of bedrooms. Granted, they've been around for many years, but they've become increasingly popular in recent years. Not to be confused with a regular bed, a daybed is a small lounging area that's used for resting during the day. If you have an open space in your bedroom next to a window, consider adding a daybed here.

Low Headboards

Finally, the use of low headboards has become a popular bedroom decor trend. By lowering the height of the headboard, it emphasizes the bed and bed frame to create a uniquely stylish appearance. Some homeowners are even going one step further by making their own headboards out of hardwood or other materials.
