6 Simple Ways to Improve Your Home's Exterior

What does your home look like from the outside? If it's dirty, dilapidated or otherwise neglected, perhaps it's time to give it a makeover. Even if you maintain a clean and tidy interior, you need to focus some of your efforts on the outside of your home. Otherwise, you'll fail to create an attractive curb appeal that presents your home in a positive manner. Here are six simple ways to improve your home's exterior.

#1) Pressure Wash It

Over time, dirt, debris and mildew will accumulate on the side of your home. When this occurs, it creates a dirty appearance while lightening the overall color of your home's exterior. You can revitalize your home's exterior, however, by pressure washing it. Using a high-PSI pressure washer, hose down your home's siding to remove any stubborn dirt and debris.

#2) Repaint the Front Door

Another simple way to improve your home's exterior is to repaint the front door. With just a few gallons of paint and some brushes, you can easily improve your home's exterior. A fresh coat of paint can turn an otherwise dingy-looking front door into a bright, boldly colored element of your home's exterior.

#3) Place a Welcome Mat Near the Door

In addition to repainting the front door, place a welcome mat near it. A welcome mat is a dual-purpose product that reduces the amount of dirt you track into your home while also instilling new color and style to the surrounding decor.

#4) Touch Up Flowerbeds

Assuming you have flowerbeds around your home, you should touch them up by removing weeds and adding mulch. When neglected, weeds have a tendency to overtake flowerbeds. They'll consume nutrients and moisture, thereby hindering your flowers ability to grow. Removing weeds and adding a layer of mulch, however, encourages healthy growth for your flowers.

#5) Edge Driveway

Is your driveway ridden with weeds? If so, use a weed-eater or edger to remove them. Edging your driveway will create a cleaner and more cohesive exterior -- and that's exactly what you should strive to accomplish when working on your home's exterior.

#6) Maintain the Lawn

Finally, be sure to maintain your lawn. This means mowing it once a week during the summer and adding the occasional fertilizer. With a little work, you can create a lush green lawn.
