5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Chandelier ofr Your Dining Room

You can't go wrong with a chandelier when decorating your dining room. While there are dozens of different lighting solutions available for the dining room, there's no comparison for a high-quality chandelier. Chandeliers have been around for centuries, offering a classic, timeless style. But if you're going to use this type of lighting in your dining room, you need to choose the right type of chandelier.

#1) Bulb

What type of bulb (or bulbs) does the chandelier use? Incandescent bulbs have long been the preferred choice among manufacturers and consumers alike. They are inexpensive, safe for the environment and readily available at most general goods stores. In recent years, though, there's been a growing demand for chandeliers with compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) or light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs, both of which last longer and use less energy than incandescent bulbs.

#2) Size

Arguably, one of the most important things to consider when choosing a chandelier for your dining room is the size. Keep in mind that there's no single "best" size for a chandelier. The ideal size will depend on the size of your dining room. If your dining room is small, you should use a small chandelier to balance the atmosphere, If it's large, you should use a large chandelier. Choose a chandelier in a size that's relative to the dining room in which it's used.

#3) Length

In addition to size, you should also consider length when choosing a chandelier for your dining room. Some dining rooms have tall ceilings extending up to 20 feet. If your dining room has a similar design, you'll need a chandelier with a long enough cord. Otherwise, it will remain stuck at the top of your ceiling, offering little or no value to your home's aesthetics.

#4) Construction

Pay attention to the material or materials from which the chandelier is constructed. Some of the most popular choices are glass and crystal. They offer an unparalleled level of formality while enhancing the surrounding decor in the process. With that said, even glass and crystal chandeliers are usually made of at least one other base metal, such as copper or steel.

#5) Price

Finally, consider the price when choosing a chandelier for your dining room. Prices vary, with most chandeliers costing between $500 to $2,000. And if you need help installing it, you can expect to an additional $200 to $500. Choose a price that fits your budget and follow the other tips outlined here to find the right chandelier for your living room.
