5 Quick Fixes for a Cluttered Home

You can spent countless hours painting and decorating your home, but it's not going to offer any real benefit unless you eliminate the clutter. Unfortunately, clutter is an all-too-common occurrence in the modern-day home. Once you run out of closet space, you may find yourself piling items up on the floor, spare bedrooms and elsewhere. If this sounds like a familiar scenario, consider the following tips to de-clutter your home.

#1) Create 3 Piles

When de-cluttering your home, try creating three piles: one for trash, another for things you'd like to sell, and a third for things you'd like to donate. As you go through your belongings, move items that you don't want to keep into one of these three piles.

#2) Find New Storage Spaces

You can also de-clutter your home by identifying new storage spaces. Not surprisingly, one of the most common causes of a cluttered home is a lack of storage space. Therefore, you can overcome this decorating faux pas by freeing up some space in your home. Investing in a storage ottoman for the living room, for instance, can provide additional storage space. Alternative, you can remove old furniture and replace it with storage solutions like shelves or a bookcase.

#3) Keep the Floor Clean

The absolute worst place to store your belongings is directly on the floor. When the floors become cluttered, it can restrict your movement while also posing a serious risk of injury. Therefore, you should keep your floors clean and free of obstruction at all times.

#4) Yard Sale

There's no better way to de-clutter your home than throwing a yard sale. Not only does this free up space, but it can also put some extra spending cash in your pockets. Just remember to place plenty of signs outside your home and around the neighborhood; otherwise, no one will know about your yard sale and you probably won't get many sales as a result.

#5) Consolidate

Finally, you need to consolidate your belongings so they take up less space. For instance, if you have multiple bedrooms filled with items, try to consolidate them into a single bedroom. Again, you can go through your items while placing them into one of the three piles mentioned above, while leaving the remaining items that you'd like to keep in the bedroom. Even if you don't remove any items, though, you should still be able to consolidate some of them together.
